Defective Bumper Coating Due to Dust Adhesion

After being moulded, bumpers are transferred to the coating process, during which dust and other foreign particles adhere to them. The dust adhering due to static electricity sticks fast because of the Coulomb force, so removing it requires some external force.
Even when it can be removed with an air blow, it will adhere again due to the electrostatic charge of the bumper or dust. If bumpers are coated with dust on their surfaces, it may cause uneven coating or protrusions.

Conventional countermeasures

Humidity control

  • Condensation in the equipment or facility will be a problem.

Conventional static eliminator

  • The static elimination speed is insufficient.

Countermeasures with static eliminators (ionizers)

An ionizer can prevent foreign particle adhesion to improve coating quality. It also helps reduce the disposal cost of defectively coated bumpers and the labour cost for wiping.

Improvements and Effects
Words from the worksite

Reduced costs of disposal due to foreign particle adhesion

Disposal cost of bumpers: 1,000€/month x 12 months = 12,000€/year

In addition, the cost for the labour of workers wiping the parts is reduced.
